Kraken Bond Fireplace Sealant - Fireplace Caulk, 10.1 oz
Kraken Bond Fireplace Sealant is a one-component, silicate-based joint filler designed for high-temperature repairing fireplaces applications. This high temp sealant is ideal for insulating and filling cracks in fireplaces, stoves, chimneys, and ovens. It is resistant to direct flame and can withstand temperatures up to +2732°F. The fast-drying, low-odor formula is easy to apply and clean, making it suitable for both professional and DIY use. It adheres well to all porous surfaces such as brick, concrete, and natural stones without fragmenting or cracking after curing.
Features & Benefits:
- High Temperature Resistance: Withstands temperatures up to +2732°F, making it an excellent wood burning stove sealant.
- Flame Resistant: Resistant to direct flame exposure.
- Fast Drying: Quick drying time for efficient project completion.
- Versatile Application: Can be used on porous surfaces like brick, concrete, and natural stones.
- Easy Application and Cleanup: Simple to apply and clean with low odor.
- Durable: No fragmentation or cracking after curing.
Application Areas:
- Heat-Resistant Insulation and Sealing: Ideal for insulation and sealing tasks requiring high heat resistance, such as chimney caulk and stove pipe sealant.
- Crack Filling: Perfect for filling cracks and joints in fireplaces, stoves, chimneys, and ovens.
- Soot Door Sealing: Suitable for sealing soot doors and sealant for oven door glass.
- Substrate Compatibility: Adheres to metal, stone, brick, and concrete substrates, making it a versatile sealant for chimney caps. It functions effectively as a brick sealant for fireplaces and a stone sealant for fireplaces.
How to Use:
- Safety Precautions: Ensure good ventilation at the work area. Wear personal protective equipment. Do not eat, drink, or smoke when using this product. Always wash hands after handling.
- Surface Preparation: Ensure surfaces are clean from dust, loose particles, and oil. Non-porous surfaces should be cleaned with solvent and a clean, non-fluffy cotton cloth. Remove solvent residues with a clean cloth before they evaporate. Slightly moisten very porous surfaces before application.
- Application: Apply the sealant to the joint or crack using a caulking gun. Smooth the surface with a rubber silicone scraper or putty knife, and remove any excess material. In some cases, using a plaster spatula may be more convenient. After the final solidification, slowly heat the sealant up to +482°F. As a result of heating, the sealant will turn dark grey and become extra-hard.
- Cleaning: Clean uncured sealant with a cloth dampened with water. Cured sealant can only be removed mechanically.
- Limitations: Not suitable for moving joints or in contact with materials that expand or contract when exposed to temperature.
